NEWSFLASH: W&DBKA Registered With The Charity Commission

AUGUST 2022 LATEST: THE ASSOCIATION IS NOW A REGISTERED CHARITY (number 1200002)

On 21 July 2022 the Charity Commission emailed us to say: “…we are satisfied that Wokingham and District Beekeepers’ Association is a charity…”

This effectively recognises the work the Association, and members past and present, have been doing to promote the craft of beekeeping, throughout the district, since 1946.

The email came as a result of the work the Association committee has been doing, in order to be registered as a charity.  This work commenced after members gave the go ahead to pursue charitable status at the October 2021 AGM.

As a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) we will have a new constitution,  based on the Charity Commission’s suggested format for a CIO.  This will need to be ratified by members at the next AGM in October 2022.

As a registered charity, individual members will no longer run the risk of being held financially liable in the unlikely event that the Association cannot meet its debts.  You will also have the option to Gift Aid or not to Gift Aid, when annual fees are renewed. Gift Aid allows the Association to claim back some of the income tax you originally  paid.   (This only applies to those paying UK income tax.)
